A Grade Pembroke 11.5 (71) def Plympton 1.9 (15) at Haslam W
On a wintry day, the A grade welcomed back Magnus Illman, Mitch Thiele and skipper Ollie Harms as the lads looked to end a four-game losing streak. Plympton came to play as they had the early territorial advantage as we struggled to get the ball out of our D50 for the majority of the first term. The backline superbly led by Ollie Harms kept the Bulldogs to just one goal and after 22 minutes Max Read won a free and kicked a much-needed goal. Just before the siren, Will Kennett marked strongly and kicked truly to put us up by eight points at the first change. The second term saw the Kings continue to play well and apply plenty of pressure. A kick across half back by the Bulldogs was intercepted by Kane Pearson who goaled at the five-minute mark. Soon after Tyson Matthews snapped a clever and when Armando Iannunzio goaled after a free, we were five goals clear. The backline continued to turn defence into attack and as just before half time Tom Duffy kicked truly to give us a 30-point lead at the main break. Louie McRostie playing his best game of the season goaled in the third term as the Kings stayed on top. When Plympton did get the ball forward they struggled with the accuracy, as our defence continued to apply plenty of pressure. Iannunzio and Henry Read scored goals to put us nearly eight goals clear at three quarter-time. With heavy rain falling play was scrappy in the first half of the term. Towards the backend goals to Henry Read and Jamison Rankine put the icing on the cake to complete a top day at Haslam. In a good even team effort the best were skipper Oliver Harms (8 spoils), Kane Pearson (32 disposals), Jack Carruthers (21), Sam Gecz, Tyson Matthews. Magnus Illman (16 tackles) and Harry Willis (12) helped us lead the tackle count 104-72.
B Grade Pembroke 9.5 (59) def Plympton 7.9 (51) at Haslam W
The B’s were slow out the blocks in the first term as the Bulldogs played the better footy to lead by nine points. Nathan Tu and Mitch Rees had been working hard down back as in the second term the Kings started to get into the game. Lucas Saunders kicked a good long goal and when Ollie Borda snapped truly but Plympton goaled in the last minute of the term and retained a nine-point lead. In the third quarter, the Kings started to get on top running the ball better and with three goals to two narrowed the gap by two points. With the game on the line the Kings started well, Jono Duffy goaled as Archie Williams from a tight angle. When Rory Switajewski majored, the lead was 14 points with six minutes to play. Then the rain bucketed down as the Kings prevailed to hold on and get the win. Best - Nathan Tu, Mitch Rees, Jonty Jamieson, Eddie Elias, Luke Lovelock.
Queens Pembroke 7.10 (52) def Westminster 2.7 (19) at Glandore Oval W
The first quarter was a tight contest, the Queens gaining a narrow lead thanks to goals to Alice Emmett and Charlotte Weber. The second term was even early, but Alice Emmett kicked a long goal and then Amber Hopkins scored one, the margin was 17 points at half time. The rain tumbled down in the third term, Westminster kicking a goal midway through the term to get the margin back to two goals. Just before the end of the term Rosie Harvey kicked a clever goal to get the margin out past three goals again. Early in last term the Queens defence withstood a lot of pressure and then Amber Hopkins kicked a nice goal on the run to seal the win, while skipper Ash Carter kicked the last of the day to make it four in a row. Best - Alice Emmett, Amber Hopkins, Lila Lloyd, Ashlea Carter, Tallulah Jongeneel
C Grade Pembroke 8.19 (66) def Plympton 7.2 (44) at Haslam W
The C’s started well kicking 3.5 to 1.0 in the first term. In challenging conditions at times, the team stuck at it very well and had we been a bit more accurate in front of goal would have won by more. Best - Harrison Prosser, Toby Wilks, Alex Favretto, Fraser Edginton, Bill Newman
D Grade Pembroke 22.14 (146) won at Golden Grove 8.9 (57) W
The Ds conceded the first goal then run rampant kicking the next eight to take control of the game. They won every quarter and finally broke the drought in a great win by 89 points and celebrated accordingly. Best - Fletcher Adams, Ash Rawlinson, Jesse Ferres, Alexander Painter, Darren Nguyen. Jesse Ferres kicked five goals and coach Jake Elias kicked three.
