President's Report

Tough day at the office. Sadly we went from a “greenwash” to losing all five – story of the day below.

A Grade

Pembroke 6.8 (44) def by Edwardstown 3.1 (19) at Haslam

After plenty of morning rain, the Haslam deck was heavy as the A grade welcomed debutants Tom Reid and Ollie Borda to the team.

The Kings started well but missed two shots at goal as Edwardstown were more skilled in the conditions to kick the first two goals. The Kings got on the board when Tom Reid’s handpass found Harry Willis his kick went to Will Kennett, who kicked truly. Towards the end of the term a goal to Edwardstown was overturned, but they soon added another to go in 11 points clear at quarter time.
The second term saw the game develop into a real slog, with plenty of stoppages and congested play. Goals were hard to come by until the 14-minute mark when Will Kennett took a grab deep in attack and put it through. Shortly after Ollie Ormsby won a free and had a chance to level scores but missed to the right, sadly a few minutes later he injured his left ankle and had to be helped off the ground. Half-time score: Kings 2.4 (16) to Edwardstown 3.3 (21).

Two goals to Edwardstown in the first four minutes of the third term saw their lead out to 17 points in some danger signs for the Kings. Midway through the term a strong tackle by debutant Borda was rewarded and he converted from right in front. The Kings were lucky not to concede a goal in the following minutes as some sloppy kicks went unpunished by the Towns. Into time on Will Kennett found Henry Read who marked kicked a great set shot from 50 metres out. With seconds left Edwardstown goaled to win the term and get the margin to 13 points.

The Kings had the ball forward early in the last quarter as Will Kennett snapped the much needed first goal of the quarter. Towns replied with a goal at the 10-minute mark to ease their lead back out to 12 points. Play see-sawed over the next period of play and then right on the 20-minute mark Tully Kennett seized on a chance in the right forward pocket to goal, the margin now just six points.
Pushing hard, the Kings Tom Duffy won a free for deliberate out of play and narrowly missed with his shot from the boundary. Moments later Willis also had a tough shot but could only raise one flag. Kane Pearson marked on 50 and kicked long, Tyson Matthews almost taking a hanger 20 metres out. Time ran out with the Kings deep in attack, the final margin just four points.

Great to see Tom "Choppa" Reid and Ollie "Bords" Borda get their debuts for the A Grade on the weekend. They had their guernseys presented by good mates Armando Iannunzio and Louis McRostie respectively. Also check out Ollie Harms highflier!

B Grade

Pembroke 8.3 (51) lost to Edwardstown 7.10 (52) at Haslam

The Kings started well in the wet conditions as Archie Williams goaled with a clever check-side kick in the first couple of minutes. The Kings held a one-point lead at quarter time and looked good early in the second but couldn’t score. Edwardstown got their game going and added three goals to nil to have a 21-point lead at half time.

With the rain gone for the day, the third term saw the Kings come out fired up as Will Cameron goaled early, followed by majors in quick time from Jono Duffy and Charlie Bowen. When Eddie Elias goaled at the 10-minute mark, the Kings were back in front. Edwardstown got a goal back to take the lead, but late in the term Lucas Saunders took a mark and goal, the Kings up by a point with a term to go.

The visitors goaled in the opening moments of the final term but a few minutes later Archie Williams scored one off the ground. Edwardstown added a behind and when they goaled midway through the quarter, had a seven-point lead. With four minutes left Elias marked and goaled, but from there Edwardstown got the ball forward and kept it there to hang on for the win.

Queens

Pembroke 4.4 (28) lost to Mitcham 5.11 (41) in South Parklands

The Queens started well to have an early lead but in the second term fell away as Mitcham added 4.4 to nil to lead by 25 points at half time. The Queens couldn’t make any ground in the third term but played well in the last, kicking a couple of goals but in the end went down by 13 points. Best – Skipper Ash Carter, Alice Emmett, Lucy White, Indira Panelli, Jemima Woon

C Grade

Pembroke 2.1 (13) lost to Edwardstown 11.9 (75) at Haslam

With several players unavailable Senior Coach Charles Canny made an appearance for the first time this season on what was a tough day in the rain and boggy conditions. The Towns looked the better side throughout and after half time dominated to win by 62 points. Best - Charles Canny (pictured below), Josh Clohesy, Seb Sobels, Harrison Prosser, Lachlan Gurner who all battled hard throughout the match.

Well done to A Grade Coach Charles Canny for donning his iconic 45 to help the C Grade with low numbers!

D Grade

Pembroke 0.2 (2) lost at Walkerville 25.22 (172)

After the joys of a first win a fortnight ago, the Ds had to play the unbeaten Walkerville. It was a tough day, but the lads kept fighting to the end. Thanks to those who played on late notice including past President Luke Evans.
