No. 7, Round 6
Round 6 - QUEENS WIN THREE STRAIGHT, LOSSES FOR KINGS
A Grade – Pembroke 17.8 (110) lost at PHOS Camden 20.13 (133) L
In excellent conditions PHOS were up and about adding 3.2 in the first 10 minutes to put the Kings under the pump. The Kings then settled as Tully Kennett and Harry Willis showed their class out the middle to get the ball forward as Henry Read, Will Kennett and Tully all goaled. PHOS got away late in the term to add four goals to one from Ollie Ormsby to lead by 27 points at quarter time. With a few position changes made, Henry Read goaled as did Jamieson Rankine who was moved forward as they narrowed the deficit. With Ollie Harms out due to illness, Sam Gecz went to defence to stabilise that area as the Kings were worked their way back into the game. Tully Kennett and Harry Willis continued to win some good ball and with Jack Carruthers hitting targets up forward, Rankine and Ormsby goaled again as we trailed by 22 points at the long break. Sadly Seb Wilckens suffered a knock to the right side of his face and was unable to take any further part in the game. Henry Read goaled after three minutes of the third term and when Kane Pearson kicked a nice left foot snap, we trailed by just nine points, and it was game on. PHOS then had a good patch to kick a couple and ease their lead out once more. With the Kings winning more than their share of clearance ball, Read kicked his fourth, but the home side added two more late in the term to have a handy 27-point lead with a term to go. The last term saw Armano Iannunzio snap an early goal and when Ready snared his fifth, it was back to a 16-point game. A few tackles we made didn’t get rewarded as PHOS then added to their lead. Midway through the term Read kicked his sixth, Willis goaled and when Read kicked his seventh, we were just 12 points down at the time-on period. Sadly for us PHOS kicked the last couple and ran out winners in what was an entertaining game. Best –Tully Kennett (42 disposals), Henry Read, Harry Willis (also 42), Max Read, Kane Pearson. Injury update – Magnus Illman was close playing last week, with luck he and skipper Ollie Harms (illness) will be back on Saturday. Seb Wilckens has fractured his eye socket and cheek bone and will be out for some time.
B Grade – Pembroke 12.7 (79) lost at PHOS Camden 14.8 (92) L
The B’s were into the breeze in the first term and had plenty of chances but couldn’t put it on the scoreboard. Trailing 1.4 to 4.1, the lads played better in the second term and kicked 5.1 to 3.2 to be only four points behind at half time. PHOS played the better footy for most of the third term, but the Kings kicked two late to stay in touch with a quarter to go. PHOS kicked an early goal and despite finishing well we went down by 13 points. Lucas Saunders kicked four goals, best were Sam Carruthers, Tom Reid, Luke Lovelock, Jonty Jamieson, Max Davis.
Queens – Pembroke 7.8 (50) def Modbury 2.1 (13) W
The first half was a tight battle, Lucy Hammond kicking goals in each of the first two quarters to put the Queens up at half time by five points. It was all Pembroke in the third term as Indi Panelli kicked a clever goal and then Ailis Nolan also kicked one to add to the lead. The ball hardly went into our defensive area for the second half, as we went on with the job in the final term to win by 37 points to make it three in a row, to put the girls into fourth spot on the ladder. Best - Indira Panelli, Tallulah Jongeneel, Scarlett Darley, Alice Montgomery, Farah McConnell-Psaltis
C Grade – Pembroke 12.1 (73) lost at PHOS Camden 12.4 (76) L
After being level at quarter time (3.1 each), PHOS played the better footy in the second term to lead by 12 points at half time. The home side extended their lead and with 25-point deficit, we had it all to do in the last term. The lads finished the better and goaled with seconds to go to just fall short. Best - Stewart Watts, Riley Wake (4 goals), Alex Favretto, Paul Tsouvallas, Bill Newman
D Grade – Pembroke 4.8 (32) lost to PAOC 17.15 (117) L
The lads started quite well to kick two goals in the first term but after that POAC were a too strong after that to win comfortably. Coach Jake Elias sad post-game he was proud of the effort, given we only had the bare numbers for the match. Best - Mitchell George, Ash Rawlinson, Harry Oldfield, Thomas Andary, Hugo Sutton.
