A Grade Pembroke 6.8 (44) defeated by North Haven 13.11 (89) L
Boosted by the return of Tully Kennett and Armando Iannunzio, the Kings started well against the top side, with Harry Willis finding Henry Read who goaled after four minutes. Shortly after Tully Kennett found Tyson Matthews who kicked our second. From there North Haven got into the game adding two goals themselves in the next six minutes to have a one-point lead at the first change. North Haven goaled early in the second term and then play see-sawed, the Kings moving the ball well but were unable to convert their chances. North Haven was cleaner and made less errors in the latter part of the term, all up adding 4.3 to four behind to go 24 points clear at half-time. The third term saw both sides move the ball well, Matthews goaling at the 10 minute mark to get the margin back to 19 points. North Haven snuffed out the revival to kick the next couple to get the biggest lead of the day. Late in the term Archie Richardson kicked to Ollie Ormsby who marked well and goaled to get the margin back to 25 points with a quarter to go. Kicking to the Parade end for the last term, the Kings were running the ball well but couldn’t get that much needed first goal. North Haven capitalised when the chance arose to goal and push their lead out further. At the six minute mark, Tully Kennett who was consistent all day kicked a fine goal on his left foot but virtually 60 seconds later came the reply from the visitors. Midway through the quarter Tully Kennett won another free and converted, but sadly from there the Magpies got on top to kick the last three goals to run out comfortable winners. Best – Tyson Matthews, Jack Carruthers, Harry Roberts, Tully Kennett, Harry Willis. Injury update – Magnus Illman was out, hopefully he’ll be back soon. Dylan Hopkins, Levi Johnston, Ned Carruthers are all mid-long term injuries.
B Grade Pembroke 9.4 (58) defeated by North Haven 10.5 (65) L
The B’s started well to lead at quarter time (3.1 to 2.2), but the second quarter saw a hungry opposition looking for their first win add 3.0 to 1.1 to lead at half time by six points. The third quarter was an even affair, North Haven able to maintain their narrow advantage. The last quarter saw the game open up as Lucas Saunders (two goals, three after half time) and Peter Clayer goaled but each time the Kings scored a major, the Magpies were able to reply and held onto to win by seven points. Best – Eddie Elias, Peter Clayer, Will Cameron, Tom Felice, Sam Creighton.
Queens Pembroke 3.5 (23) defeated Lockleys 2.9 (21) on Friday night W
The weekend got off to a great start with the Queens scoring a narrow win at Lockleys. After absorbing some pressure in the first few minutes, Amber Hopkins took a good mark and goaled at the five-minute mark. Willow McConnell-Psaltis was in everything early and when she passed to Chloe Tucker, the Queens had their second goal to hold a five-point lead at quarter time. The rain then came and made ball handling a challenge, but through hard work and a lot of determination, the Queens kept their lead across the next two quarters. The rain stopped and in the first seven minutes of the last term neither side gave an inch. The Queens got the ball forward and from a stoppage Lucy Hammond’s quick thinking saw her kick a miraculous goal off the ground from the right forward pocket. Soon after Lockleys snapped a goal, so with seven minutes left the game was again up for grabs. The Queens defended as if their lives depended on it and held on to secure their second win in a row. Best - Farah McConnell-Psaltis, Lucy White, Indira Panelli, Ella Manning, Willow McConnell-Psaltis, in what was a real team effort.
C Grade Pembroke 19.16 (130) defeated North Haven 1.4 (10) W
The Kings were dominant from the get-go, kicking six goals to nil in the first term. It was a strong four quarter effort as they recorded their second win in a row. Best - Stewart Watts, Zac Teo, Alexander Favretto, James O'Halloran, Harrison Prosser. Major goalkickers were Riley Wakes with 4, Eddie Cook, Paul Tsouvallas and Harvey Wood kicked 3 each.
