No. 5, Round 4
Round 4 - C GRADE/QUEENS FIRST WINS FOR 2026, B’s WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, A GRADE JUST FALL SHORT
A Grade Pembroke 8.6 (54) lost at Kilburn 9.12 (66) L
On a cloudy day at Kilburn the Kings started well with Sam Gecz sinking a great goal at the five minute mark from just outside 50. A clever intercept by Kane Pearson saw him add to the tally and after Tyson Matthews won a free and goaled, the Kings had a nine-point lead at quarter time. Early the second term the Kings started to get on top as Archie Richardson kicked to Henry Read who marked and goaled. Then minutes later Sam Carruthers won a free and goaled to put us 21 points up. The rest of term saw tight footy by both sides, Kilburn added a goal, but the Kings still led by 15 points at the long break. The third quarter saw the breeze pick up and using it well Sam Carruthers hit Ollie Ormsby with a nice pass and he goaled at the six-minute mark. Halfway through the term Max Read kicked a good goal to give Pembroke a 29-point advantage, their biggest lead of the match. Kilburn did not lie down and managed a couple of goals themselves, the margin back to 16 points at the last change. The last quarter saw the Chics improve around the contest and with good play got a run on to kick the first two goals, to trail by just two points. A clever goal to Sam Carruthers saw the Kings back out to a eight-point lead after 13 minutes. Backed by the home crowd Kilburn finished the better, Anthony Wilson kicking three for the term including a few late as they went onto win by 12 points. Best – Sam Gecz, Harry Willis, Archie Richardson, Kane Pearson, Harry Roberts. Injury update – Armando Iannunzio missed the game on Saturday having hurt his ankle on Friday. Fingers crossed for him and Tully Kennett, who was also absent from the A grade on the weekend.
B Grade Pembroke 16.12 (108) won at Kilburn 6.4 (40) W
The B’s made it three in a row with a strong four quarter performance. The team had nine different goalkickers in a good win, also great to see the experienced Matty Robertson amongst them kicking a couple himself. Best - Jonty Jamieson, Sam Creighton, Luke Lovelock, Ollie Borda, Koen Morrison.
Queens Pembroke 6.6 (42) defeated Scotch 4.1 (25) W
The first quarter saw the Queens goal late in the term as Ailis Nolan made a great tackle and kicked it through from a tight angle. Early in the second, Amber Hopkins snapped a clever goal followed by a nice one on the run from Indira Panelli. Later Charlotte Weber marked in the square and goaled as the Queens went out to a 23-point lead. In the third Chloe Tucker roved one off hands to goal and in the last Hopkins kicked her second to ensure the Queens first win of 2026. Best - Indira Panelli, Alice Montgomery, Ashlea Carter, Lucy White, Ailis Nolan.
C Grade Pembroke 21.9 (135) won at Kilburn 8.5 (53) W
The Kings were up for this game, having been narrowly beaten last week. They started well with 5.4 to zip in the first term and then led by 35 points at half time. The Chics came back to win the third quarter, but our lads steamrolled them in the last term to kick 10 goals to run out 82-point winners. Best - Harvey Wood (7 goals) dominated up forward, next best Alexander Favretto, Harrison Prosser, Stewart Watts, Oscar LeMessurier
D Grade Pembroke 4.6 (30) defeated by Uni 14.11 (95) L
With some experienced names back in the lineup the Ds were favoured to grab their first win of the season. The more than matched the Blacks in the first half and had chances in the second term but couldn’t get the score on the board to trail by 14 points at half time. Uni got on top in the third term, kicking six goals to one which effectively decided the match. In the end the margin was 65 points, Best - Fred Ligertwood, Ash Rawlinson, Jesse Ferres, Harry Oldfield, Mitchell George. Great to see Jack Green, Adam Zeni, Harrison George, James Iannucci and Liam Switala play and look forward to seeing them out again this season. Late in third term Ash Rawlinson suffered an injury, which required an ambulance to be called and thankfully he is ok.
