Coaches Report:

Round 2 saw the Kings take on Lockleys away in hot conditions.

It was free flowing game early with the ball pinging from end to end. Our midfield were taking control in the clearances but Lockleys were able to transition from D50 to F50 smoothly and set up score from there.

The guys worked hard to limit their transition game and combined with us continuing to dominate stoppage we were able to take a lead into halftime.

We started the 2nd half strongly, limiting the opposition uncontested marks and playing some strong footy of our own. Unfortunately we missed 4 gettable set shots in a row to let Lockley off the hook. They then got some momentum up and kicked back to back goals at the end of the third to be within 7 points.

The last quarter was an arm wrestle early with Lockleys continuing to play with momentum and having a couple of opportunities to take the lead but missing. Pleasingly from that point on we dominated the game to run away 40 point winner.

Our midfield were terrific all day led by Tully Kennett and well supported by Oli Ormsby, playing first ruck in his 2nd A grade game, and Tyson Matthews who continues to impress. We also had really strong contributions from Mitch Thiele, Oliver Harms, Henry Read and Armando Iannunzio however there are probably another 10 names that could be on that list as it was a great team performance.

Unfortunately the strong win came at a price with young gun Levi Johnston suffering an ACL injury to end his season. I’m sure we will see Levi back dominating again in 2027.

This week we have our first home game against a strong Seaton Ramblers team. It’s an exciting opportunity to see where are at and show the type of footy we can play.

See you at the footy.

Coaches Report:

This was a taxing game, and the conditions were tough with heat and wind.  But having said that it was the same conditions for both teams and we are a much better side than them.  In fact, in the last 2 weeks we have dominated play in both games but have allowed our opposition to be in positions to win these games.  Yes it is early days but we have Seaton this week and we need to start to find our feet if we want to be serious this season, they have drawn to Plympton and been well beaten by Walkerville, 2 sides that we owe plenty too over the years.  This is our time to stand up, stop the wasted skill errors, and grow on what we have a great base for.

I don’t believe we were really beaten in any facet of the game in review, it was our play that allow them to stay in the game. Our first half was very good, with our ball  movement across the ground showing real improvement from an already high standard to date.  When we moved the ball with intent and were brave with our choices, they simply had no answer to it hence our 6 scoring opportunities (2-4) to their solitary point.  They simply could not get the ball beyond their HF.  Into the wind we held our advantage whilst they outscored us in the second it was by just 2 points but we held a 14 point advantage at the long break.

After HT with the wind when we should have consolidated, we let them into the game and they again outscored us.  They got on top in the midfield and got a lot of run off HB, they didn’t really change anything, we just let them into the game, Chopper got tired from being the sole ruck against a bigger man, and they lifted.  We lost momentum to them and they grew in confidence.  We eventually got the momentum back to an even keel but they were up and about and we lost the advantage.  Then of course in the last, cloud cover came over the ground and the wind died.  It was a scrap, they got in front late in the quarter but to the boys credit they lifted and got the game on our terms with a 5 point win.

Some players that I feel performed well on the day that just missed out on the 5 and deserve a mention are Oli Borda in first game back in the side for a while, Bachetti in his first for the year, really could have had 4 gaols to half time such was his presence early on, Max Davis was solid in his debut for the reserves and will only get better, Eddie Elias with his wounded wing battled hard all day, and Sammy Creighton has really gained some core strength over the off season and is happy to impact the body of the oppo with strong outcomes.  Well done boys. And now we move to Seaton in our first at Haslam for 2026

Queens

Results: Pembroke 4.5-29 defeated by Glenunga 4.7-31
Best: Montgomery. Carter, Panelli, Lloyd, Emmett
Goals: Carter, Panelli, Banks-Saunders, Tucker
Coaches Report:

The Queens made a perfect start to their first home game of the season bringing a great intensity from the opening bounce. Their pressure around the contest and good movement forward allowed them to get on the scoreboard early with a great contested mark and goal by Indira Panelli who the Queens welcomed back this week. This strong start was reflected on the scoreboard, as the Queens piled on three goals in the first quarter to go into the second quarter 19-7. The queens continued to fight hard in the 2nd and 3rd quarters with new ruckmen Alice Montgomery and Alice Emmett winning majority of the hit outs. Although, Glenunga responded upped their game and took their chances when in front of goal allowing them to edge ahead heading into the final term. The Queens were down going into the final quarter but their wall of defence stood tall to keep Glenunga scoreless for the entire term. They also controlled most of the play locking the ball in their forward half to have repeated opportunities at goals, but they were still unable to find the goals to regain the lead. In the end, it was a frustrating result for the Queens with their strong start and dominant final quarter showing their potential, but they fell just short in a great contest against Glenunga, going down by just two points, 4.5 (29) to 4.7 (31). This week we look forward to travelling out to Flinders Park for what should be another competitive game.

Results: Pembroke 9.4-58 defeated by Lockleys 11.10-76
Best Zito, Williams, Nguyen, Sims, Edmonds
Goals: LeMessurier 2, Wood 2, Cook, Edmonds, Sobels
Coaches Report:

We took on Lockleys in Round 2, producing another performance that showed strong patches but ultimately fell short when it mattered most. Similar to Round 1, we were slow out of the blocks and allowed the opposition to get the early jump on us. To our credit, we responded well and worked our way into the game, lifting our intensity around the contest and beginning to control territory. When we were at our best, we moved the ball with purpose and gave ourselves opportunities to score. The turning point came late in the third quarter, where we conceded a run of goals that proved costly. After doing the hard work to get on top, those lapses hurt us on the scoreboard and made it difficult to recover. There were again plenty of positives to take from the performance. Vinnie Zito was exceptional across half-back, consistently intercepting and driving our rebound. Archie Williams continued his strong form, showing what he can do through the midfield with his work rate and ball use. Darren Nguyen’s one-on-one efforts were outstanding in just his second game of football, while Dan Sims’ run through the midfield helped open the game up. Up forward, Billy Edmonds’ pace applied pressure and created scoring opportunities. We now turn our attention to Seaton this week, looking to build on these positives and get back on track.

Results: Pembroke 8.9-57 defeated by Lockleys 14.11-95
Best: Ligertwood, Sutton, Rawlinson, Ferres, Belej
Goals: Bowen 2, Jones 2, J. Elias, Le Quesne, Hodgkison
Coaches Report:

On the weekend, we took on Lockleys in the second game of a two-game home stand. Seeking our first win of the year, the boys came out firing early. Hungry to win the footy and put goals on the scoreboard, we kicked five goals to Lockleys’ one in the opening term. Despite this great start, we unfortunately let Lockleys back into the game in the second quarter, aided by a slight breeze. From then on, it felt like an uphill battle. With limited numbers on the bench, the boys had to run all day. New recruit Mitchell George tried to lift the troops with a huge chase-down tackle; however, it wasn’t enough in the end, with the final term getting away from us. Final Score:
Pembroke 8.9 (57)
Lockleys 14.11 (95) Goal Scorers:
Charlie Bowen 2, Peter Jones 2, Ash Rawlinson 1, Henry Hodgkison 1, Jesse Ferres 1, Jake Elias 1 Best Players:
Fred Ligertwood showed his talent with his speed, ball skills, and fitness, running all day. Hugo Sutton stood strong as the anchor of the defence and was very solid all day. Ash Rawlinson was outstanding, able to ruck and deliver quality hit-outs while also being highly skilful around the ground. We take on an experienced Modbury side away this week. It will be a good test for our young side and a chance to build on our strong first-quarter performance.

Milestones

Congratulations to James O'Halloran who brings up his 100th game for POSFC this week!

Since joining the Club from school in 2020, Fing has always been someone willing to contribute in any way he can.

While his career has seen him play across the B-D Grade, both as a towering ruck and full-forward, his contributions to our Club cannot be understated when it comes to his off field commitment.

A member of the Club's executive, and current Operations Manager, without his commitment we wouldn't be able to field five teams every week!

Thank you for your service James, and best of luck this weekend!
