FOOTY IS BACK!!
A’S HAVE A MEMORABLE WIN AT UNI
ROUND ONE: A GRADE – Pembroke 9.13 (67) def Uni 9.9 (63)
What a fantastic start for the A’s to come up trumps in toasty conditions. In front of big crowd, and kicking with a slight breeze, our lads led at quarter time, before Uni had the better of the second to be up by six points at the long break. The third term saw us have the better of the play, but several shots were missed as we added 3.5 to 2.1 to lead by four points with the last quarter to come. In a dingdong battle, two inspirational goals came from Harry Willis and with some great determination right around the ground, we held onto to win by four points. Harry Willis, Jack Carruthers, Armando Iannunzio, Tully Kennett, Jamison Rankine were the named best players. It was a real team effort, you could also have easily slotted in Max Read, Ollie Harms and Harry Roberts as well in what was an awesome win on what was hot afternoon.
B GRADE – Pembroke 5.9 (39) lost to Uni 6.8 (44)
One that got away from the Kings. In what was a tight game all day, our lads hit the front with a behind with under a minute to go. To their credit, Uni went kick/mark several times down the ground to perfection to score a goal right on the siren. While disappointing, a great learning curve for a team that looks set for another good year.
Best: Tom Felice, Jonty Jamieson, Sebastian Wilckens, Sam Carruthers, Luke Lovelock. I was also impressed by Ollie Ormsby in ruck.
C GRADE – Pembroke 9.11 (65) lost to Uni 14.5 (89)
After a tight first half, Uni pulled away in the third term to add 4.1 to 1.3 to have a 21-point lead with a term to go. In an even last term, the lads couldn’t make up the difference to go down by 24 points, in a game where the Kings had one more scoring shot.
Best: Alex Lee, Max Davis, Archie Williams, Patrick Brooks, Stewart Watts
D GRADE – Pembroke 0.10 (10) lost to ROCS 13.17 (95)
It was a tough day by the team coached by Jake Elias. Having seen it first hand, they some chances to kick a goal, but just couldn’t get one through the big sticks. ROCS had some experienced players and were physically stronger. Our lads gave their best and will be better for the run. Darren Nguyen played well in the backline to be best and looked like he had his own cheer squad at the game!
Best: Darren Nguyen, Thomas Andary, Josh Clohesy, Alexander Painter, William Edmonds
QUEENS – Pembroke 3.5 (23) lost to Mitcham 8.5 (53)
After a tight first term, the second saw Mitcham kicked four goals to two to grab a handy lead. Our opponents went on their way in the third term and went 30 points clear, which was the final margin. Best: Farah McConnell-Psaltis, Alice Montgomery, Tallulah Jongeneel, Ashlea Carter, Evie Blanks-Saunders. Also good to see Lucy Hammond slot home two goals up forward.

GAME DAY FILMING POSITION
THANKS TO THE SCHOOL and CHURCHILL SERVICES
On behalf of the club, we’d like to thank Pembroke School deputy Principal Chris Zielinski for allowing us to film our matches this season from the outer wing. Previously this has been done in Grandstand, with a restricted view. It’ll be a big help for the coaching staff, players and our Stats provider, who give us vital data from the filming of the games. Massive thanks also to Craig Hammond of Churchill Services, who will kindly provide the mobile camera tower in 2026.

VOLUNTEERS – WE ALWAYS NEED HELP!
MATCH DAY OFFICIAL (MDO)
The MDO is a straightforward role where you assist the umpires, help time keeping (no time on in Bs, Cs and Ds which makes it easier!), and ensure the general operation of the game. However, it is a role the League requires is done properly. Thanks to those who have put their hands up, but we are still looking for more!
BBQ – EVERY HOME GAME FOR THE KINGS, starting Round 3 on May 2
A big thanks to Peter Read for his help over the last five years for ensuring this had run so smoothly. Like all top volunteers, Peter needs a spell and it creates an opportunity for others to chip in and help. I am happy to report we have had a few hands go up including former player and loyal supporter Scotty Gurner, but we will still need more help!
