B GRADE GREAT LAST TERM SEES THEM WIN, A’S, C’S AND QUEENS ALL DEFEATED

A tough weekend for the club with many players out through injury, work and other reasons.

A Grade

Pembroke 1.8 (14) lost at Seaton Ramblers 10.13 (73)

With more than a half a dozen changes from last week, it was an undermanned A grade that took on the top three side. The Kings had the breeze in the first term and had plenty of possession but tended to blast the ball into the forward line which helped the Seaton defence. Seaton were far more effective with their use and goaled twice from early inside 50s and then the Kings got on the board thanks to a fine snap by Will Kennett at the 10-minute mark. Kane Pearson was providing plenty of drive but again we weren’t effective enough going forward. Then in time on, Seaton went forward and goaled to lead by 12 points at quarter time.

The Kings won the opening clearance of the second term, working the ball forward but could only manage a rushed point. Then Seaton cleared quickly and with two long kicks were deep in attack. They added two goals in the first six minutes to open up a four-goal advantage. In the next period the Kings more than matched their opponents, Mitch Thiele and Pearson were working hard and Tyson Matthews narrowly missed a shot mid-way through the term. Into time-on, Seaton goaled and then when we went forward had a shot which clipped the left-hand goal post. Seaton’s next inside 50 saw them goal from the boundary, the Kings could have easily won a free right in front of goal but it wasn’t paid as Seaton went in 35-point leaders at half time.

The rain hit at the start of the third term, not good timing as the Kings had the breeze. It was stoppage after stoppage until Duffy took a mark after nine minutes and sadly missed within range. From the kickout, Seaton took the ball away to goal in what was to be the only goal of the quarter. Duffy had another chance but only managed a behind, Seaton just under seven goals clear at the last break.

Having the breeze in the last term, Seaton goaled early and despite several entries into the forward 50, the Kings couldn’t score for the term. The lads kept trying to run the ball to the bitter end, going own by 59 points.

B Grade

Pembroke 4.14 (38) won at Seaton Ramblers 4.10 (34)

In windy conditions conversion in front of goal was difficult for both sides in the first half, as the Kings led 0.9 to 0.4 at the long break. Seaton got going with the breeze in the third term to kick two early goals, but the Kings scored a vital goal into it at the 10-minute mark thanks to a free to Lucas Saunders. The home side added two further majors to get the margin to 18 points with a term to go.

The last term saw the lads rally as Will Edmonds snapped a goal after four minutes. Lucas Saunders had a chance from a free and missed but minutes later after a fumble by a Seaton defender, Saunders kicked a goal off the ground to narrow the margin. The Kings kept the ball forward and after a few misses the quick-thinking Toby Wilks goaled to give us the lead, the lads doing well to come from behind to win and keep fourth spot on the ladder. It was also encouraging that Ned Carruthers got through the game, having not played previously this season due to a serious hamstring injury.

Queens

Pembroke 3.4 (22) lost to Lockleys 4.9 (33) at Haslam

Lockleys kicked two goals in the first five minutes to take early control of the game. In the second part of the quarter Ash Carter won a free and kicked a nice goal from a tight angle, as the Queens trailed by nine points at quarter time. Heavy rain then began to fall, Lockley’s goaling at the five-minute mark to extend their lead. The rain cleared as the Queens got it forward for Chloe Tucker to soccer through a much needed six-pointer, the margin 12 points at half time.

Inaccuracy by Lockleys had kept the Queens in touch, as they played the better footy to add a goal and lead by 20 points with a term to play. As the wind picked up the last term saw the Queens throw everything at the Demons but unfortunately, they couldn’t convert. Ash Carter had a long shot at goal which fell short, with Maya Bentley cleverly toeing it through for a goal. Try as hard as they did the Queens couldn’t get any closer to be beaten by 11 points.

C Grade

Pembroke 3.3 (21) lost at Seaton Ramblers 11.12 (78)

A tough day out for the lads who suffered most with some many out. The first half saw us go goalless, the third term an improvement as we added a couple of goals.

Best - Alexander Painter, Stewart Watts, Daniel Miller, Will Belej, Hugo Sutton.

D Grade

Pembroke lost on forfeit to Modbury.
